Object info

IC1396 is a large emission nebula complex located in the constellation Cepheus. It lies at a distance of about 3000 light years and has a diameter of several hundred light years.
The dense dark patch of nebula located to the center-right is also known as the Elephant trunk nebula.


Processing

CCDOPS was used for focussing. Image acquisition was done using CCDSOft.
Images were taken on 4th and 5th Sep. All separate frames were calibrated, aligned and stacked in ImagesPlus 2.8.
Photoshop CS2 was used for further processing - curves adjustment, levels adjustment, etc. The image was calibrated using 9 (Min-Max Excl. AVG) darks, 7 average combined (dark-subtracted) flats and 5 average combined bias frames.
