Object info

The first object in the Messier catalog is the most famous known supernova remnant. The supernova of the central star was observed on July 4 in the year 1054 AD. The distance to the "Crab Nebula" in the constellation Taurus is 6300 light years.


Charles Messier cataloged this object on September 12, 1758.


Processing

DSLRFocus for focusing. Calibration, aligning and stacking in IP 2.8. Photoshop CS2 was used for final processing.
Light frames were calibrated using 45 darks, 25 flats and 20 bias frames.


Comments

Superb conditions, cold, dry weather, no moon.
An asteroid (probably 86 Semele) is captured in the top right corner of the image.
