Object info

NGC2024, better known as the "Flame Nebula" is located right next to the star Alnitak (zeta Orionis). This star is the left most out of the three stars forming the belt of Orion the Hunter.

The dark nebula in the flame (=dust) is also believed to be part part of the nebula complex which forms the Horsehead nebula, a bit farther south.
The Flame Nebula lies at a distance of about 1.500 light-years.

Processing

DSLRFocus was used for focussing. All separate frames were calibrated, aligned and stacked in ImagesPlus 2.8. "Dynamic Background Extraction" (DBE) was done in PixInsight. Photoshop CS2 was used for further processing - curves adjustment, levels adjustment, etc. The image was calibrated using 30 darks, 30 flats and 30 bias frames.
Above image is a "Pseudo" LRGB image. An artificial "L" component was added to the RGB image.
