Object info

NGC2174 is a reflection nebula in Orion (near the border with the constellation Gemini) which surrounds a small cluster of young and bright stars.
The distance to NGC2174 is estimated at about 6500 light-years.


The small round patch of red nebulosity at upper right is 15th magnitude Sharpless 247.



Processing

DSLRFocus was used for focussing. All separate frames were calibrated, aligned and stacked in ImagesPlus 2.8. "Dynamic Background Extraction" (DBE) was done in PixInsight. Photoshop CS2 was used for further processing - curves adjustment, levels adjustment, etc. The image was calibrated using 45 darks, 40 flats and 30 bias frames.
Above image is a "Pseudo" LRGB image. An artificial "L" component was added to the RGB image.
