Object info

The Cone Nebula (NGC2264) was discovered in 1785. It can be found at a distance of 2600 light years in the constellation Monoceros.
The Cone Nebula is an extensive nebula region surrounding the so called "Christmas Tree Cluster". The blue emission nebula is caused by ionized hydrogen by the star S Monocerotis.
NGC2261, also known as "Hubble's Variable Nebula" can be found at bottom center of the image.

Processing

DSLRFocus for camera control. Calibration, aligning and stacking in IP 2.8. Photoshop CS2 was used for final processing. Light frames were calibrated using 20 darks and 20 flats (flats were also dark subtracted)

Comments

Very difficult processing due to the large amounts of red in this nebula complex.
