Object info

NGC 281 (a.k.a. "The Pacman Nebula") is a small cluster with a red diffuse nebula. The cluster lies at a distance of about 9500 light years. The young stars in the center of the cluster cause the Ha gas to light up. This small cluster and corresponding nebula can be found in the constellation Cassiopeia. The star at upper left is alpha Cassiopeia.

Processing

DSLRFocus for camera control. Calibration, aligning and stacking in IP 2.8. All further processing was done using Photoshop CS2. Light frames were calibrated using 7 darks and 10 flats.

Comments

Not nearly enough exposure time for such a red object. Had to revert to using ISO400 due to high night teperatures. Very mediocre seeing.
