Object info

NGC 6960 is the west end of the Veil Nebula complex. (this part is also sometimes called "The Witch's Broom Nebula"). The east end can be found under catalog no. NGC 6992.
This nebula is a supernova remnant, the host star exploded about 10.000 years ago. The bright star in the center (52 Cygni) is not related to the nebula. NGC 6960 lies at a distance of about 1400 light years.


Processing

CCDOPS was used for focussing. Image acquisition was done using CCDSOft.
All separate frames were calibrated, aligned and stacked in ImagesPlus 2.8.
Photoshop CS2 was used for further processing - curves adjustment, levels adjustment, etc. The image was calibrated using 5 darks, 10 average combined flats and 10 bias frames.
